Statistics of Inland Coasting Trade Consignment of India

Statistics of India’s internal trade along the sea coast are available in this publication. The title of this publication has undergone changes from time to time. From the very beginning upto March 1957 issue the name of the publication was “Accounts relating to the Coasting Trade and Navigation in India”. Later the tables relating to Navigation in coasting Trade were dropped and the said publication was renamed as “Statistics of Inland Coasting Trade Consignments of India".

The basic documents for compilation of Statistics of Inland Coasting Trade are received from different Customs/Port authorities in the form of coastal trade returns. The classification followed for recording coastal trade consists of 450 items for presentation. For the purpose of compilation the total coastal area has been divided into 12 maritime blocks namely (1) Andaman and Nicobar Islands (2) Andhra Pradesh, (3) Goa (4) Gujarat (5) Karnataka (6) Kerala (7) Lakshadweep (8) Maharashtra (9) Odisha (10) Puduchery  (11) Tamil Nadu (12) West Bengal which corresponds to 12 maritime States and UTs of India.

Value of both inward and outward movements separately for each maritime block are shown in a 12 X 12 matrix form with subtotals (row/col.) and grand totals at the beginning of the publication. All commodity-wise breakups with quantity and value in prescribed unit traded between the blocks are presented subsequently. Also maritime block wise trade flow of different commodities alongside internal movements amongst the ports within a block, if any, are also presented in a separate table.

Periodicity: The publication is compiled annually on financial year basis.
